Giraffe Center, Nairobi

While we were still in Nairobi, Lynn and I rode with another family, the Pease's, to the Giraffe Center.  I didn't know what to expect, but it was awesome.  Giraffes are probably my new favorite African animals.

There were nine giraffes there and three of them came up close and personal to the center to eat out of our hands.  The females daintily licked the pellets off of our hands with their long, rough tongues while the male nibbled the pellets more like a dog would.

Until they are right there, it is hard to visual how long their heads are --of course, in perfect proportion to their long slender bodies.  They were so gentle.  Graceful and elegant in their movements.

There was a nice warthog whose job was to pick up and eat the pellets dropped by the giraffes.  Everyone was happy -- even the tortoises who had their own space.

Of course also included were two gift shops and the one that interested me was outside.  The owner was a wood carver and his carvings of the Masai tribe were very realistic.
